butPerhaps we should start reading and caring about global concerns and not just ours. The 'NEEDS' of Corporate Travel must be addressed; we must raise the bar where Quality/Hospitality Standards are concerned in our Travel Services in general and Hotels & Resorts in particular.
Much higher standards of know-how and professional finesse is required from all personnel (top to bottom ranks) in all fields related to the industry, most notably in technical know-how, general knowledge, education and culture, behavior and etiquette, languages, dress-codes, personal hygiene and so on.

Travel Industry people are ambassadors, representative of our nation. The 'Ambassadors' cliche has been over-used and prostituted in rhetoric, but the fact remains that it is true. Remains therefore to upgrade the quality of humans in the field to the standards of 'Foreign Affairs/Diplomatic Corp' personnel; we must chose them like real Diplomats are chosen, or were, and teach them like real Diplomats are taught, or were ... in the Golden Age of everything not too many years ago.

If we want to regain the rich but demanding Corporate Market along with MICE related traffic in general, Human Resources & Training have a major role to play by raising their own standards of performance first, and then on to the rest. Developers/Owners/Management Companies should also upgrade (spend money) where Room Amenities, Conference Rooms, and especially Hi-Tech & Communication are concerned. Meeting Planners are shrewd 'brokers' and demand the highest value for their clients' money, that's how they make their buck!

After all the historic revolutions in the region, and Egypt's hierarchy in the area has regained its rightful position, I see a chance for our return to the status of "Prime Destination" very soon; the destination would be integrated in global corporate politics which are integrated, in turn, in their own nations' diplomatic & commercial visions/plans in the region - long-haul interests. Such Neo-Corporate Travel culture; including upscale Incentive Movements and even High-Rollers (conditions permitting), as well as Meetings, Conventions and International Trade-Shows, may be the first 'real' profit-generating business to return to Egypt after years of compromising ourselves cheaply.

We've been happy with numbers that cross borders (including refugees) and just bodies between the sheets... more interested in hypothetical statistics rather than 'real' money in the bank - and the present 90% (+) occupanccies in the Red Sea and Sinai should not blind us to from the truth. Reshuffle is what we need; a 'Quake-Up' call.

The 'Quake-Up' call to Travel
