Implying that gods of ancient Egypt could experience the shivers induced by lovers' reunion as much as the agony caused by their being apart, once a year Hathor used to  sail upstream on the Nile from Dendera to join up with her consort, Horus, at Edfu Temple. Hathor was the goddess of joy, love and maternal protection. The popular celebration known as the "Festival of the Embrace" coincided with the harvest season and the beginning of the Egyptian New Year.
